Ten Tips For Clear Skin

You can help your skin stay clear as possible. Here are tips you can do to deter your breakouts:

  • Get plenty of rest and reduce stress. Stress is a key aggravator of acne. Stress stimulates the adrenal gland, and the adrenal gland promotes oil production which leads to clogged pores.

  • Drink a lot of water, and watch out for iodine-containing food (kelp/seaweed, salty foods, sports bars/drinks), avoid ''high androgen” food -peanut products, shellfish, organ meats and limit dairy consumption.

  • Make sure to check the ingredients of any cosmetics or hair products that contain pore-clogging ingredients.

  • Avoid using fabric softeners.(liquids or dryer sheets)

  • Use Fragrance-free detergents.(fragrance can irritate skin)

  • Breakouts around your mouth area? Many lip balms, toothpaste, and even facial tissues have comedogenic ingredients in them. So, if you see breakouts around your mouth area, this is possibly why. We recommend Vaseline or Aquaphor for a lip balm and toothpaste without SLS ( sodium lauryl sulfate). Many well-known tissues brands infused with things like coconut oil, isopropyl myristate, and SLS, all of which clog the pores.

  • Wear sunscreen EVERY DAY.

  • Beware of hand lotions. If you are using comedogenic hand lotion and then leaning your face on your hands or sleeping on your hands, this could contribute to your acne.

  • No picking or Squeezing! Instead, rub ice on pimples for a couple of minutes, twice a day. IMPORTANT: if you pick, squeeze, and break the skin, that scab will leave a red or dark mark for months.

  • Avoid low estrogen birth control pills. ''Lo''dose pills are higher in androgen hormones that can make acne-prone skin worse.

Remember, acne is never cured, only controlled. Continue to use your home-care products just as you have been using them. If you start breaking out again (and you have been using your products consistently), let us know so we can adjust your routine. Let the acne expert help you to get the clear skin.
